What kind of skin care products and make-up would be best for my skin type?
I apologize in advance, this is looong:
My skin type: My skin gets oily in certain areas (mostly my forehead, around my nose, and chin), and it’s acne prone mostly due to stress and allergies. I don’t get a lot of white heads or black heads, I get those nasty bumps that are deep in the skin (usually one or two at a time), and take about a week to surface. They don’t look too bad since they can usually easily be hidden with concealer, but they hurt terribly. Since I’m naturally fair, any redness on my skin and scars are pretty noticeable.
What I’ve tried for skin care: You name it, I’ve probably tried it. I’ve been using mostly those 3 step kits, and I use them for several months before making my conclusion. I haven’t resorted to pills because I just don’t like having to remember to take medicine on a daily basis. Everything I have tried has irritated my skin pretty badly, except Proactiv. But all that did was strip my skin of any moisture. I’m using Olay right now to keep my skin moisturized. Luckily it doesn’t aggravate my acne. I ultimately want to get rid of (or at least fade) my acne scars (as well as scars from sparring), and obviously prevent acne so my face doesn’t hurt and I won’t have to worry about more scar prevention.
What I’ve tried for make-up: Probably anything you can get in Target or Wal-Mart. Right now I’m on Bare Minerals since my mom got me a starter kit. It’s not bad, but I want to try the matte powder before kicking it to the curb. The powders do a pretty good job at hiding imperfections and don’t clump up when I wear my glasses. My real problem is that even the lightest color isn’t light enough to match my fair skin just right. I’m sure it’s more visible to me than anyone else but I still don’t like it. The one thing I avoid like the plague is Cover Girl because it clogs my pores pretty badly.
What I was looking to try: I was interested in trying out Clinique’s skin care and make-up products; at least their make-up. No one I know uses Clinique, and I’m not too eager to rely on the webpage’s comments alone. I also saw a blog about Suki skin care products (sukiskincare.com) and there were photos posted of before and after results. The photos were not air brushed, and the women did have less acne, redness, and the scars were completely gone on a few of them. I’ve also heard that Skin Eternal Hyaluronic Serum is a good product, but I haven’t seen any well thought out reviews for it.
Sorry that was so long. What do you guys think I should try?
Karen, I will definitely try what you suggested! I’ve tried homemade skin care methods before, but saw no difference. Surprisingly, I haven’t read anything about castor oil and grape seed oil, despite knowing their benefits. I will try that, as well as the honey mask, as soon as I make my trip to the store!

I usually end up starting low end and trying out a few different ones. Do what fits your situation and Im pretty sure your instinct will be correct. I use http://BrandsMakeup.com
First and foremost.. great question ! More questions should be like this.. you really provided lots of info which is good so we can help you !
What I am going to suggest might be off the beaten path but I am going to suggest it because it seems like you are serious and will put in the effort required to clear up your skin.
I am going to suggest home made organic approaches which I urge you to try not only because I feel you might get great results but because it won’t cost you much to try it.
First to cleanse.. I suggest the Oil Cleansing Method ( OCM ) The method uses the concept that oil attracts oil and cleanses without harsh irritants or chemicals.
What I suggest is use a blend ( 50/50 ) of Castor Oil and Grape seed Oil. The Castor oil is known to go deep into the poor and cleanse without stripping your face and causing more sebum production. The Grapeseed oil has anti-oxidants and healing properties to help with the acne. This will also clean every bit of makeup on your face while leaving it soft and moisturized. What you do is ( at night ) put a small amount on your palm and spread on face.. with your fingertips start massaging the oils all over your face.. you will start seeing your makeup slide off .. while you are doing this run the hot water and put a washcloth under it.. the washcloth should be hot but not so that it burns you. You wring out the washcloth and lay it on your face for a few seconds.. then wipe your face to remove the makeup, grime etc.. rinse and repeat .. your face will not be greasy and it will be supple !
Next is a Honey mask.. Honey is one of the most natural healing foods in the world. Get some honey and smear on face don’t put so much on that it drips.. just enough to cover.. let it sit as long as you can ( 30 min – 1 hr. ) then rinse.. your face will feel fantastic..
Do the cleanser everyday and the honey every other day until you feel your face is good.. then leave the honey as your once weekly mask..
I hope you do try it.. Good Luck !!
