How to Prevent and Treat Acne Scars

Acne sufferers face more than one concern. There is of course the constant nuisance of the acne itself. There is also the anxiety caused by the acne scars and lesions which will render the skin an aesthetic disaster. The reason for this is that most people believe that acne is a temporary situation whereas you are stuck with acne scars for the rest of your life.

Undoubtedly there are numerous acne scar treatments in the market today which work quite well. But the downside is there are some types of acne whose scars cannot be eliminated because they run too deep. Therefore you must ensure that no scars form in the first place because you wouldn’t want to take on the emotional and financial burden of dealing with permanent scars.

Since I have some acne scarring, I am lucky I don’t have signs of aging on top of it, but in my mid 30s, I need to start prevention….
I need a good eye cream , anti-wrinkle, and dark circles, which is effective, but not too greasy for the rest of my skin.

Can anyone recommend a good, effective product?

I apologize in advance, this is looong:

My skin type: My skin gets oily in certain areas (mostly my forehead, around my nose, and chin), and it’s acne prone mostly due to stress and allergies. I don’t get a lot of white heads or black heads, I get those nasty bumps that are deep in the skin (usually one or two at a time), and take about a week to surface. They don’t look too bad since they can usually easily be hidden with concealer, but they hurt terribly. Since I’m naturally fair, any redness on my skin and scars are pretty noticeable.

What I’ve tried for skin care: You name it, I’ve probably tried it. I’ve been using mostly those 3 step kits, and I use them for several months before making my conclusion. I haven’t resorted to pills because I just don’t like having to remember to take medicine on a daily basis. Everything I have tried has irritated my skin pretty badly, except Proactiv. But all that did was strip my skin of any moisture. I’m using Olay right now to keep my skin moisturized. Luckily it doesn’t aggravate my acne. I ultimately want to get rid of (or at least fade) my acne scars (as well as scars from sparring), and obviously prevent acne so my face doesn’t hurt and I won’t have to worry about more scar prevention.

Obviously I know people will be concerned, and of course I’m aware of them, I’m taking action, right?
I think I suffer from something called Dermatillomania, although luckily it is not as severe as picking of the hands and legs, etc.
I would really appreciate a list of great advice, techniques, help, prevention, how to cover up minor acne scarring, brown spots (dried pimple areas), and other things like that.
People think that this can just go away, all it takes is power, but like any addiction, it’s really hard to let go fully.

I would most likely choose a best answer with a lot of information.
A LOT.
I will not takes “i don’t know, stop!” or a paragraph of common sense type answers.
Obviously I could have and did do that on my own.
Be creative, encouraging and gracious with your answers.

Help for Cyclical Acne in Women?

I am 20, and when I was a teenager my acne was not bad. Now here recently, like a week before my menstual cycle I break out bad. I’m using OTC treatments and that does help some, but I’m wondering if there is like a vitamin or something I can take around that time to prevent it? I’d rather not go on the pill, but I would like something else to just boost my acne prevention when I know it’s coming so I don’t break out. I’m still trying to fight off the scars from 6 months ago, I don’t want any more breakouts!

do i use too much acne medicine?

what i use…

1) in the shower i use a neutrogena black/whitehead prevention soap (orange one)
2) neutrogena WAVE thingy after shower
3) dermalogica “clean start” all over clear spray
4) demalogica “clean start” PM overnight acne eliminator
5) neutrogena on the spot acne medicine

i use these in pretty large amounts. i still have some acne, like 2 or 3 pimples. but they annoy the hell outta me. also, i have a lot of little, acne scars. i use all these products all over my face (on the spots are ALL over t-zone), and it seems to stop most of it. do i use too much? am i drying out my skin?

Is there anything that can heal better and faster than active manuka honey? According to my research, manuka honey will heal a wound fast without leaving a scar. Is this active manuka honey really that much better than stuff like neosporin? I got a fairly large open wound on my face from applying apple cider vinegar to my hypertrophic/hyperpigmented scars left from past acne. I’ve been using neosporin and aloe vera on it and now the wound is looking like a blister. Should I order some active manuka honey to prevent a scar from forming? If so what UMF rating do you recommend? Thanks.

How do you handle hormonal acne?

I seem to get one to two huge zits right before my period. They leave scars and are actually painful. Anyone have any remedies or prevention ideas? I’ve heard that birth control helps with this, can anyone recommend a brand, I would really appreciate it.
