Acne scars?? need help?
Hello. I have a niece who is 14 year old and she is putting on foundation just to cover up her acne scars. Is this alright?? or is she too young to put on any make up?? if it is alright, what do you reccomend to cover up acne spots and scars without causing any more pimples??
thank you and have a nice day.

you should have her taken to a dermatologist. covering it up with foundation is unhealthy especially for a 14 year old. dermatologists don’t charge a lot and will give her a prescribed acne formula that will stop her from breakouts.
Foundation is great as long as it’s good quality. It can protect the skin without causing breakouts, and some foundations even have sunscreen in them. I’ve used Bare Minerals foundation for years and it’s worked very well for me.
As for her age, I don’t think 14 is too young for makeup. Most teen girls wear at least a little. And anyway, wearing foundation to hide acne isn’t the same as wearing makeup just for fun. Being embarrassed about acne and scars would decrease her self-esteem.
She’s a teenager so it’s perfectly normal for her to wear make-up.
Also, being a teenager of course she’s going to break out. That’s just what happens.
Neutrogena has foundations that cover up acne and acne scars and also help improve skin. You can find it at any drugstore.
Here’s the website.

Hope that helps
Hi! I just turned 15 and I have been wearing foundation since I was 12 to cover it up. I’m on prescribed pills which is helping me a lot. If she can go w/o the makeup she should but if she is insecure definitely allow her to use it. Try find a foundation that is good for her skin, maybe a tinted moisturizer or mineral makeup depending on how prominent her scars are. Make sure she removes her makeup and then washes her face, bc a lot of the time the makeup remains. Exfoliation is important (and my favorite)!!! Toning and Moisturizing is the most important, she should do it before she puts her makeup on and before she goes to bed! Goodluck: )
Wearing foundation is fine, as long as it doesn’t clog her pores and cause more breakouts.
I have always had bad acne as well, and I find that some of the lotions from the Body Shop (the Tea Tree Oil Blemish Fade Night Lotion and the Seaweed Clarifying Night Treatment) both help a lot to even out the skin tone and also reduce the appearance of acne and scars. I’m assuming your niece already has a skin cleansing/exfoliating/toning etc regime…
Also, I don’t know if they sell it wherever you are (I’m in Australia) but there is a product called Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Scar Serum. It has shark liver oil in it (so it kind of stinks a bit) but it is also quite effective in making scars fade, and if you use it often enough and for long enough, the scars may fade completely.
best thing is go to a dermatologist….at least talk to a doctor and see what type of acne it is.
